SYNTHETIC SYNESTHETIC:
Embodied Perception in Post-Human Environments
Pratt Institute- BA Thesis in Critical and Visual Studies, 2020
This thesis is the result of an exploration of the space between body and experience— encapsulating ideas of perception, synesthesia, collective experience, biotheory, and object oriented ontologies. The first part of this project, a compilation of exploratory research, became the basis for generating an experimental synthetic environment which augments perceived reality through reconstructing modes of embodied perception. I propose that through engagement of the senses and an investigation of their triggered responses in the body, visitors perception of anthropomorphism will become distorted. Originally imagined as an immersive installation experience (postponed due to Covid-19), this project is imagined below via a combination of videos, still photography, digital collages, and mock-up installation views.
